Exercise rehabilitation is an important part of the treatment for many conditions. This includes the spectrum of people from an athlete with a shoulder impingement problem, to a new mum with lower back pain. Exercise rehabilitation is also used effectively in helping injured workers return to the workforce, people suffering from arthritis and people recovering from orthopaedic and even general surgery.
All of our physiotherapists are skilled in accurate diagnosis and appropriate prescription of therapeutic exercise. These exercises may include muscle stretching, joint mobility exercises or muscle strengthening exercises. We use Hydrotherapy to assist with improving mobility and strength in the early stages after an injury or surgery. Hydrotherapy is also a very effective treatment modality for people suffering from Arthritis.
Correction of muscle imbalance problems around the shoulder, hip or knee are addressed effectively with exercise rehabilitation and all our physiotherapists are skilled at determining the appropriate exercises for these problems. Correct training of the core stability muscles is an important part of the treatment of chronic lower back pain. We use the Real Time Ultrasound Scanner to help patients learn to activate their core stability muscles and we can help you work on improving your core stability strength and control with Fitball classes and Pilates.
For injured workers that are having trouble achieving a successful return to work, we also provide a structured progressive gym based rehabilitation program with a strong focus on functional improvement.
Gym based exercise programs are highly effective for people:
- in need of long term orthopaedic rehabilitation
- with long-standing neck and back problems after Motor Vehicle or Work Related injuries
- with extensive or serious knee and shoulder injuries where they need to rebuild the muscles around the joints
All of our Active Group Centres offer this service.
